SPATIALTRANSFORMATIONRESEARCH & PLANNING

N

City Insight has been involved in the development of numerous plans and policies that guide the use of land, the provision of infrastructure and services, and the allocation of resources.  These have involved the consideration of social, economic, and environmental factors, and consultation and collaboration with a range of stakeholders, including government officials, community organizations, and private sector groups.

Our work in geospatial analysis has included spatial interpolation, regression analysis, cluster analysis, and spatial autocorrelation.

Spatial transformation is particularly important in South Africa because of the legacy of apartheid, which enforced a system of racial segregation and discrimination that had profound spatial implications.  Since the end of apartheid, there has been a concerted effort to promote spatial transformation and redress these historical injustices. This has involved a range of interventions aimed at promoting more equitable and sustainable patterns of urban and regional development and improving the quality of life for all residents. However, spatial inequalities persist in South Africa and across the world.

City Insight’s work in this area has involved the development of policies and interventions that aim to reduce inequalities between different geographic areas, ensure the equitable provision of infrastructure and services, and use geospatial analysis to bring about transformation.
